Ergonomics: Designing Healthy Work Environments For Your Employees

Does your office space focus on employee health, wellness, and future? Don’t settle for anything but the best, when it comes to an employee’s workspace.

Have you ever heard of the word “ergonomics”? Here’s Webster’s definition. Ergonomics: the study of people’s efficiency in their working environment. According to Humanscale, there are four different things that should be focused on when thinking about your office’s ergonomics: Support, Reach, Breathing, and Vision.

Support: Never settle for office chairs that do not support the back, or are not adjustable.

Reach: Set office supplies and other commonly used items close to you, so your back is not strained when reaching for them. Also, if you are typing on a computer for most of the day, make sure that your wrists are straight and not angling up or down. A keyboard tray will help with this.

Breathing: Individual workspace air purifiers are essential for keeping your employees healthy. According to the EPA, indoor air is five times more polluted than outdoor air.

Vision: Correct lighting and monitor arms are key in helping your employees eliminate the risk of straining their eyes while working.
